6 APRIL 2026 TAX GOES DIGITAL
On 6th April 2026 Tax goes digital and this means that self-employed and landlords with an overall earn of £50,000 and over will need to have accounting software that is HMRC recognised. You will need to report your income quarterly to HMRC. In April 2027 this will extend to earnings over £30,000 and eventually also include earnings over £20,000.
This means that instead of using HMRC's website to file your return you will need to keep digital records and to submit quarterly returns and your final declaration by the 31st January.
Has your accountant spoken to you about this and what software will be best for you to use. You will need to be signed up with the software ahead of the deadline. Make sure you have discussed this with them.
